A Few Bible Verses For Husbands

David Jahn • September 18, 2021

"We believe love best motivates a woman and respect most powerfully motivates a man. Research reveals that during marital conflict a husband most often reacts when feeling disrespected and a wife reacts when feeling unloved." -Dr. Emerson Eggerichs (from his book Love and Respect)

These are in the Amplified version.

"Husbands, love your wives [seek the highest good for her and surround her with a caring, unselfish love], just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her."
- Ephesians 5:25

"Even so husbands should and are morally obligated to love their own wives as [being in a sense] their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own body, but [instead] he nourishes and protects and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church."  - Ephesians 5:28-29

"He who finds a [true and faithful] wife finds a good thing and obtains favor and approval from the Lord." - Proverbs 18:22

"Be angry [at sin—at immorality, at injustice, at ungodly behavior], yet do not sin; do not let your anger [cause you shame, nor allow it to] last until the sun goes down." - Ephesians 4:26

"A soft and gentle and thoughtful answer turns away wrath, but harsh and painful and careless words stir up anger." - Proverbs 15:1

"He who answers before he hears [the facts]—it is folly and shame to him." - Proverbs 18:13

"...with all humility [forsaking self-righteousness], and gentleness [maintaining self-control], with patience, bearing with one another [a]in [unselfish] love. Make every effort to keep the oneness of the Spirit in the bond of peace [each individual working together to make the whole successful]." - Ephesians 4:2-3

"Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant.
It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured.
It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail].
Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening].
Love never fails [it never fades nor ends]."
- 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
